Bringing the veterinarian profession alive for young children who are just beginning to dream about future careers, this engaging video places emphasis on a love for nature and animals, but also stresses basic academic skills and the requirement of a college degree. Viewers are taken behind the scenes at the zoo, shown the tools used by vets, counseled on teamwork and responsibility, and given a firsthand look at what happens inside a vet's office. Relevant vocabulary words, such as "germs," "environment," and "anatomy" are defined as they are used, and while the young host is somewhat inarticulate, the great script, good camerawork, and colorful graphics more than compensate. Useful alone or as preparation for an animal hospital field trip, When I Grow Up I Want to Be a Veterinarian!, backed by excellent accompanying curriculum materials, is definitely recommended.
