The relatively low stakes/high winnings poker game of Texas Hold 'Em has achieved massive popularity in regional casinos around the U.S. over the past decade, and this two-disc set is intended both for beginners and advanced players (with the fundamentals on the first disc and more advanced techniques on the second). Boosting the entertainment value of this program is the presence of several semi-celebrities, including three actors from The Sopranos (Vincent Pastore, Frank Vincent, and Vinny Vella), plus perennial character actor Fisher Stevens (Anything Else) and Willie Garson (Sex and the City). Decorating the proceedings is former Miss USA Lynnette Cole, who finds reasons to slip into a swimsuit while the guys sit around a poker table, but the real action revolves around Texas Hold 'Em instructor Robert Varkonyi, the 2002 World Series of Poker champion. Varkonyi breaks the game down into basic rules and strategies, explaining the lingo, while also offering tips (on betting, raising, etc.) and dissecting the action as the wiseguys play for keeps. A little cheesy, but also an informative guide to a very popular game, this is a strong optional purchase. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
