Designed for parents and children to watch together, Working It Out covers a wide range of topics in a quick 30 minutes: anger management, refusal skills (dealing effectively with negative peer pressure), bullies, sexual harassment, weapons, school bus safety, latchkey kids and warning signs that something is troubling a child. Each topic is presented in a vignette, with examples ranging from what to do when peers want to drink their parents' liquor to handling hallway hassles (rude comments from others) to reacting to a friend who brings out the family gun (viewers are advised to get out fast and call for help). Personal safety educator Kevin Perline and the two teenage co-hosts do a good job of putting the message across. The second in a series (see Keeping Kids Safe! [VL-11/96]), this is highly recommended and an Editor's Choice. Aud: I, J, P. (C. Dratch-Kovler)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
