A fine introduction or refresher on fundamental concepts, Editing & Proofreading follows hosts “Julie” and “Nick” as they walk viewers through the basics. Pointing out the importance of editing and proofreading in future careers (including screenwriter, journalist, and songwriter), as well as in schoolwork, the program illustrates how careful rereading—with attention to grammar, punctuation, and spelling—contributes to the ultimate goal of making your ideas clear, rather than confusing, to readers. Tips and techniques include consistently matching plural and singular verbs with the correct pronoun; properly using semicolons, modifiers, conjunctions, commas, and apostrophes; and avoiding common problems such as sentence fragments, run-on sentences, and comma splices. The program also includes onscreen text examples and segments with teens who use the guidelines to improve their own work. DVD extras include discussion questions and activities. Other titles in the seven-volume Writing for Students series include Creative & Narrative Writing and Writing Persuasive Essays. Highly recommended. Aud: I, J, H, P. (J. Williams-Wood)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
