Living in today's high-stress world exacts a toll on women's bodies, potentially causing not only detrimental effects on general health, but also interfering with sexual energy, hormones and, possibly, fertility. Many women are waiting until later in life to conceive, and with decreased chances for success they often turn to expensive medical procedures--in vitro fertilization, egg donors, fertility drugs, etc. Yoga 4 Fertility was developed for women who want to increase their fertility through exercises that increase feminine energy in the body and stimulate the second chakra, the energy center responsible for reproduction (even for those who do not wish to conceive, strengthening the second chakra is said to boost creative powers, strengthen emotional relationships, and improve overall sexual function). Hosted by certified prenatal yoga instructor Brenda Strong, whose soothing voice melds nicely with the background music, the program is shot outdoors in a pleasant garden setting. Focusing on gradually building energy in the body through controlled breath and movement, Strong's routine attempts to concentrate heat in the lower abdomen and reproductive areas. The bottom line is that even if viewers do not buy into the philosophies behind this ancient practice, the video provides a nice introduction to basic yoga moves and asanas, and may help them achieve a sense of peace in their otherwise chaotic lives. Recommended. Also available, Yoga 4 Partners, priced at $14.95. Aud: P. (J. Asala)
