Sisters Lauren, Emily, and Jessica Parsons are the stars of this yoga instructional program produced and directed by their parents Sue Anne and Jim, in which young viewers have the option of choosing a full workout or three shorter segments. Offering suggestions for yoga aids—including blocks, straps, and blankets (or household item equivalents)—the Parsons trio present “Floor Poses” (with customary poses such as cobra, cat/dog, and more creatively titled ones, including “dead bug” and “superhero”), “Standing Poses” (triangle, warrior, etc.), and “Seated Poses” (head to knee, boat, wheel), with tips for adjusting the poses for beginner and more advanced participants (Jessica has Down syndrome, and the program stresses accessibility for people with developmental disabilities). The message that yoga is good for helping to alleviate tired or sad feelings, as well as helping with mental focus and keeping strong and flexible is solidly presented. On the other hand, the oft-parodied “om” chant and occasional odd remarks (such as that a particular spot in the body feels like a “green triangle”) are likely to raise eyebrows in a few teens. Still, there is much to like in this well-meaning, professional-looking production (and 10% of the profits are being donated to nonprofit organizations benefiting teens), making this inexpensive program recommended, overall. Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
