Being a grandparent myself, I wondered how Yoga for Grandparents would distinguish itself from the literally thousands of yoga DVDs on the market today. Turns out that most of the moves here are suitable for beginning yoga enthusiasts of any age, but what is different is genial instructor Ingrid Von Burg's voiceover narration, which combines one part instruction with two parts encouragement suggesting that grandchildren really do want to hang out with us fogies. Yoga for Grandparents opens with Von Burg and a fit-looking middle-aged couple stretching during a warm-up segment, followed by a “Dynamic” sequence (including common poses such as “downward dog”), and a playful “Partners” section (with exercises performed in pairs) incorporating poses such as “turning the pot” and “the butterfly.” Also featuring segments on breathing and relaxation, Yoga for Grandparents is a solid low-impact yoga program that could help grandparents connect with their grandkids, who may be surprised that Nana can actually touch her toes. Recommended. [Note: Yoga for Families is also newly available at the same price.] Aud: P. (N. Plympton)
