This baby-sleep video was produced by a pediatric pulmonologist with specialty training from Johns Hopkins. In other words, it is a medically sound (rather than sentimental) guide to helping your baby establish good sleeping habits. Unlike the similarly themed Sleep Like a Baby (VL-7/00), here Dr. Stuart Tomares points out the dangers of infants sleeping with parents, and discusses how the latter, rather than the former, should set the night-time agenda. Tomares emphasizes using a consistent approach and underscores the importance of creating positive sleep associations: putting the baby to bed while he/she is still awake, in a dark and quiet room, and then coping with the indignant squalls until the baby gets used to the new routine. In addition, the program addresses the subjects of breastfeeding during the night, and special cases (such as illness and vacations). Considering the amount of reliable, tried-and-true factual information provided here, plus the great price, this is a tape every public library should consider. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
