As a farrier (i.e., specialist in equine hoof care) with 17 years experience, host Richard Klimesh says that vets appreciate a safe, clean, and well-managed barn…and are likelier to put owners of same higher on their appointment priority list. So while planning a safe and efficient design to benefit the horses is important, it is also good to keep in mind the comfort of the people who will be working there. Your Horse Barn is a detailed four-hour look at Klimesh's own barn construction, which includes 32 sections covering everything from choosing the site (downwind of the house is best!) to selecting materials, including specialty items like no-chew strips, grilles, feeders, and a wash rack. In addition, the program offers suggestions for situating the hay storage, feed room, tool room, and tack room. The DVD combines live-action instruction with still photos and onscreen graphics (not to mention several scene-stealing barn cats—and, of course, horses). While this is a fairly specialized topic for a comparatively small segment of the population, public libraries in horse country will definitely want to consider adding this informative production.
