Today's new writer faces a daunting challenge: he or she must compete for attention with the current celebrity tell-all, touchy-feelly self-help guide, or bestsellers from authors who sell gazillions of books. We all know the boost that Oprah has given to writers, but not everyone can be on her show; ditto for the late night shows, the major talk radio programs, and other outlets. For many new or small press writers, their publications are doomed to the bargain bins at Wal-Mart. You're On the Air helps to chart a course for authors who want to get their name and their product before the public, detailing the process of getting established as a ‘commodity' that is worthy of attention. Rather than aiming directly at Oprah, the video suggests starting at the local level: bookstore signings, community cable appearances channels, local radio interviews, etc. On the down side, the video would have benefited from showing authors going through the various stages which are only talked about in the video. Still, there is precious little available on how to sell yourself on radio and television and if you've got the stomach to be treated as a literary piece of meat, this video will help you become filet mignon for the mass media. As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
