Hazuki is a little vampire girl trapped in a castle with one servant to tend all her needs. When clueless photographer Kouhei shows up to take pictures of this supposedly haunted castle, Hazuki pleads for his aid and then—talk about inhospitality—bites him, with the intention of making him her slave. Although Kouhei turns out to be immune to supernatural phenomena—including vampire bites—he does help Hazuki escape and takes her home to live with his grandfather and older cousin, both wizards of a sort. Hazuki's first challenge is learning interpersonal skills (i.e., how to reach out to others without being a jerk…or biting). Her second is evading the vampire goons that the lord of the castle sends after her. Hazuki and Kouhei—whom she insists on still calling “slave”—have for the most part a cute and fractious sibling kind of relationship, with intermittent sexual undertones in a series that is generally lighthearted and comedic, but occasionally veers toward the dark side. However, some narrative questions remain unanswered as the series meanders to its conclusion. Rated TV-PG for some violence and a bit of sexy posing by the underage-looking Hazuki, this dual-language 26-episode set features DVD extras including character profiles, textless songs, and booklets.
