Unlike the “popular” creatures of the sea (whales and dolphins), sharks have fearsome reputations. Yet, they are “mesmerizingly beautiful fish,” says Jim Abernethy, one of a handful of experts featured in this informative and entertaining program for kids, which takes viewers to the Bahamas and Mexico's Isla de la Guadaloupe for an up-close-and-personal look. Featuring first-person narration by host Captain Jon Schellenger, Sharks: Knights of the Sea focuses on three specific species—lemon sharks, tiger sharks, and great white sharks—while telling viewers that over 400 species exist, but due to bad press (and tasty fins used in pricey soups), some sharks may become extinct during our lifetime. About that bad rep: sharks will head-bump something (or someone) new because they don't have hands to reach out and touch (it's an act of curiosity, not aggression), although the program is careful to point out that sharks are not for petting! Highly recommended. Aud: P. (R. Reagan)
