The third season of this Canadian cop drama set in a rough neighborhood of Montreal opens with the 19 Division reeling from public scandal and personal betrayal. The team has little trust in the ambitious precinct commander (Bruce Ramsay)—who sacrifices one of his own to survive the scandal—and they are outraged when an officer who was arrested for domestic violence returns after a minimal suspension. At the center of the show is the often rocky partnership of squad veteran Nick (Adrian Holmes), who spends the season investigating the murder of his cousin and gets involved with an inspector going after the mob, and Ben (Jared Keeso), who confronts his father's alcoholism and his mother's denial. This season serves up big drama—a major character is murdered, and another betrayal within the department puts Nick and Ben at the center of a potential powder keg—but it also remains grounded in the more prosaic stories of flawed heroes and damaged cops. That ground-level approach to day-to-day confrontations with civilians and fellow officers—coupled with the frank confrontation of alcoholism, violence, anger, PTSD, abuse of power, and other issues that plague police officers—are still the show's strength. Compiling all 10 episodes from the 2016 third season, extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette. Recommended. (S. Axmaker)
