This randy comedy series from creators Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) and Whitney Cummings stars Kat Dennings as Max, a sardonic young woman from the streets of Brooklyn with lots of attitude and very little self-esteem, and Beth Behrs as Caroline, a former socialite who lost her fortune and her reputation thanks to a dad who makes Bernie Madoff look restrained. Caroline takes a job waiting tables at the downscale diner where Max is already employed—and dropping sarcastic comments between orders. Their instant clash transforms, in the tradition of all odd-couple sitcoms, into a bond between unlikely roommates and friends struggling to launch a cupcake business on waitress salaries. Nothing new here, right down to the Israeli short-order cook who can't utter a sentence without a lewd comment or the Korean owner who checks off every Asian stereotype within the first half-dozen episodes. Garrett Morris co-stars as cashier Earl, and Jennifer Coolidge drops in as Sophie, a regular customer with an affection for the down-and-out duo. Compiling all 24 episodes from the 2011–12 debut season on Blu-ray and DVD, extras include a behind-the-scenes featurette, and deleted scenes. Optional. (S. Axmaker)
