Thirtysomething movie critic and single woman Billie (Jenna Elfman) rebounds from being rejected by twentysomething boy-toy Zack (Jon Foster)—a one-night stand turned into a four-week run—winding up both pregnant and determined to keep the baby. Based on the same-titled book by veteran film critic Mary Pols, Accidentally on Purpose is a bouncy sitcom of unplanned pregnancy, planned single motherhood, and the complications brought on by a live-in boyfriend and stoner roommates. “Loosely inspired” may be a more accurate description of the adaption from memoir to small screen, since the bubbly Elfman plays funny and sexy even when she's going into labor. Full of risqué humor, drug references, and cougar jokes, this short-lived series didn't survive beyond a single season. Compiling all 18 episodes from 2009–10, DVD extras include behind-the-scenes featurettes and a gag reel. Not a necessary purchase. (S. Axmaker)
