In Maneki City, circa A.D. 2013, scientist Kyusaku Natsume has transformed the family cat into Atsuko Higuchi, also known as Nuku Nuku, a cat-brained androbot. Gifted with remarkable powers, Nuku Nuku is sent to school along with her creator's son, Ryunosuke, to learn human ways, but her main purpose is to combat the evil Mishima Industry, whose secret evildoers are bent on global domination through…loosing malevolent washing machines and huge dolls upon Maneki High School. The high shtick/low farce approach and silly characters of this television spinoff prequel to the Nuku Nuku Dash OAV (original anime video) series are initially entertaining but don't wear well over the initial four episodes collected here, and ultimately the story turns campy without being funny. DVD extras on this dual-language title, rated 12-up, are minimal (clean opening and closing credits, previews). An optional purchase except where this series is popular.
