Watching this profoundly moving made-for-TV drama, based on Melissa Muller's controversial biography, viewers will discover that there is more to Anne Frank's story than what's recorded in the diary she kept while her family hid from the Nazis. Hanna Taylor-Gordon stars as Anne, with Ben Kingsley as Otto, her father, and indie queen Lili Taylor as Miep Gies, who helped the Franks elude Nazi detection and supplied them with provisions. Beginning in 1939, three years before Anne, her family, and friends were forced into hiding, the film paints a fuller, richer and more prickly portrait of Anne and her life inside the "secret annex" that was the Frank's home for two years, concluding with Anne's harrowing journey into Auschwitz, followed by her death from typhus at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Highly recommended. (K. Lee Benson)
