Nickelodeon's Big Time Rush aims to duplicate the success of the Disney Channel's Jonas with the Jonas Brothers, here featuring a boy band comprised of four non-relations newly arrived from Minnesota: Kendall Schmidt, James Maslow, Carlos Pena, and Logan Henderson (the characters share the actors' first names). In Hollywood, the quartet stay at the Palm Woods complex, home to other young stars—including three scream-queens and a commercial actor. Throughout these 11 episodes from the 2009–10 debut season, the leads—who are constantly in motion—don't seem to share half a brain between them (although the real-life group actually scored a hit with their 2010 maiden release, B.T.R.). During their initial recording session, for instance, they get into a food fight, and when they agree to look after the mansion of producer/songwriter Gustavo (Stephen Kramer Glickman), they break every one of his rules. Other storylines revolve around photo and video shoots, skirmishes with apartment manager Mr. Bitters (David Anthony Higgins), and meetings with label CEO Griffin (Matt Riedy). If the males get by mostly on slapstick, the females provide more grounded performances, including Gustavo's assistant Kelly (Tanya Chisholm), actress neighbor Jo (Katelyn Tarver), and Kendall's mother (Challen Cates) and sister (Ciara Bravo). Guest stars include Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger as a Gustavo client and Erik Estrada as Carlos' father. A strong optional purchase.
