The 2013 third and last season of the network crime procedural starring Dana Delany as Dr. Megan Hunt—genius Philadelphia medical examiner, forensic pathologist, and divorced mother of a teenage girl—opens with a partial cast shake-up. Megan's team and her department boss, Kate Murphy (Jeri Ryan), remain intact (with a subplot of Kate playing politics as she prepares for public office); but Megan's ex-husband and her familiar police counterparts are gone, replaced by Mark Valley as Det. Tommy Sullivan, transferred from New York and bringing a shared personal, as well as professional, history with Megan. Their chemistry is fine, if unmemorable, while the rest of the show pretty much remains the same—i.e., a reasonably well-made series that simply didn't stand out from other TV procedurals (and the personnel revisions here don't change that fact). The shorter final run arrived midseason, and the producers went for some big stories, including a terrorist bomb threat, possible demonic possession, a plane crash, and Megan's daughter, Lacey (Mary Mouser), being kidnapped by a killer. The finale even brings a modicum of closure to the enterprise; but otherwise there's not much here to appeal to anyone beyond diehard fans. Presenting all 13 episodes, extras include behind-the-scenes featurettes and a blooper reel. Optional. (S. Axmaker)
