Fans of Seinfeld's hilariously petty, amoral, self-centered George Costanza (Jason Alexander) will enjoy the misadventures of Costanza's real-life inspiration, Larry David. David, co-creator and a guiding light of Seinfeld, is the producer, writer, and star of Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which he plays himself surrounded by fictional characters (a wife, a manager, etc.) who are familiar with David's penchant for minor obsessions and social mishaps. The ten episodes of Curb's first season include "The Pants Test," in which excessive bunching of David's baggy corduroy slacks gives a female friend the wrong impression; "Interior Decorator," wherein the hero fires his lawyer while foolishly remaining a patient of her doctor husband; and "Affirmative Action," which finds David's overwhelming white liberal guilt nearly setting back race relations in America. Special features include David's funny original hour-long HBO special that inspired the series, and an interview with the star conducted by Bob Costas. Highly recommended. (T. Keogh)
