From their headquarters nestled deep in the cranium of a Mt. Rushmore-like cavern, the animated Danger Rangers blast off in their space-age aircraft to advise others (and young viewers) about various safety hazards. Comprised of Sully (a seal), Kitty (a cat), Burble (a polar bear), Squeeky (a mouse), and Burt (a turtle), the Danger Rangers use their talking S.A.V.O. (Safety Alert Vectometer) to detect risks and promote preventative measures: Kitty and Sully follow their sensors to one family's door to warn of child choking hazards (like coins and busted balloon pieces), hot surfaces and objects, the importance of smoke detectors, and gun safety, while also offering up an instructive ditty on calling 911. Next, Burble hassles a youngster about her baggy sleeves (which could get caught on playground equipment) and a biker about his bad habits (with tips on proper protective and reflective gear); Squeeky counsels motorists about hand signals and car seats; and Burt unintentionally bewilders a group of kids with a droning lecture on getting lost. The DRs reunite to talk about standing up against strangers (though the advice about potential abductors places more emphasis on defense than just getting away), and pool safety, with a closing tune that recaps most of the info. Featuring the voices of--among others--Mark Hamill (Star Wars), the late Jonathan Harris (Lost in Space), and Rob Paulsen (Animaniacs), Danger Rangers can be a bit grating at times with its overzealous approach, although very young viewers could come away with a pointer or two. Optional. Aud: K, P. (J. Williams-Wood)
