Based on the popular character Eloise from books by author Kay Thompson and illustrator Hilary Knight, this festive animated program follows the lively six-year-old “city child” as she lays mischievous plans for Christmas. Living on the top floor of New York's Plaza Hotel, ringleader Eloise rallies the other hotel children for a politically correct holiday show that incorporates a variety of religions (including Hanukkah) and cultures (such as El Salvador) from around the world. Of course, all of this means that hotel manager Mr. Salamone and Eloise's beleaguered Nanny (voiced by Tim Curry and Lynn Redgrave, respectively) have their hands full—especially with an upcoming hotel inspection—but, Eloise's grandiose schemes seem to come out right (as always), and everything's perfect in time for the children's performance (which includes a visit from Eloise's mom and jolly ol' Kris Kringle). DVD extras include a music video, a “Gift-Wrapped Kids” DVD game, and a holiday card maker. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
