Louis Jourdan (putting his French accent into romantic overdrive) hosts this feature-length compilation from the cable series Romance Theatre. Escape to Love, one of six offerings through Prism, tells the story of a young journalist named Lisa who is working on an expose' of Polish life under martial law. While visiting her aunt Anna (a member of the Polish underground), she is recruited to aid in the escape of Vitold, a persecuted Polish novelist. Posing as man and wife, the couple board a train, fall in love, meet obstacles, and overcome them to live happily ever after. Sound ridiculous enough? What's funny is, it works. And for celebrity buffs there's a bonus: one French artist played by Patricia Davis, a.k.a. Patti Davis, a.k.a. Ronald Reagan's daughter. Entertaining, escapist, and, above all, cheap, Escape to Love is the video version of a Harlequin romance. Remember the good old days when it was your colleague over in book acquisitions and not you who had to grapple with the cosmic question: should the library buy Harlequins? Now it's your turn. Recommended.
