I'm not usually a fan of Family Guy's humor—which veers into adolescent tittering too often for my taste—but this retelling of the original Star Wars film is one of the funniest spoofs I've ever seen. This double-length sixth season (2007-08) opener from the Fox animated sitcom not only features Family Guy characters in key roles but also tosses in a bunch of geeky commentary on everything that's wonderful and right (and dumb and wrong) with the epic movie that rocked the world 30 years ago. And regardless of how goofy (and occasionally juvenile) Blue Harvest gets, the animation itself is gorgeous, a beautiful homage to the film. This DVD release restores lots of bits clipped from the broadcast version, and serves up some fine extras to boot, including a conversation with George Lucas, an audio commentary by creator Seth MacFarlane, a “making-of” featurette, and more. Recommended. (M. Johanson)
