Set 29 years after the opening episode of the hit family sitcom Full House—which centered on a widower who raises his girls with the help of his two best friends—this sequel series picks up with the now-grown kids from the original show. D.J. (Candace Cameron Bure) is a young widow with three sons, and sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) is a globe-trotting DJ and single party girl. Best friend Kimmy (Andrea Barber), the divorced mother of a teenage girl, moves into the Tanner house to help raise the boys. John Stamos, Bob Saget, Dave Coulier (the best friends from Full House) and Lori Loughlin (who married Stamos's character in the original show) reprise their characters for a few episodes (in fact, the only stars from the earlier series who don't show up are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, although they are referenced in the busy pilot episode). Fuller House was created for Netflix but it follows network TV conventions so closely that it could have come right out of the 1980s: the episodes are built on misunderstandings and miscommunication; the acting is big and broad, with an insistent laugh track; and the characters routinely hug it out in happy endings with lessons learned. Presenting all 13 episodes from the 2016 debut season, this family-friendly series with nostalgic appeal is recommended. (S. Axmaker)
