Plucky high school student Mai Taniyama loves ghost stories, which is not surprising since she is just getting in touch with her own psychic powers. Mai hooks up with Kazuya “Naru” Shibuya, the teenage leader of the Shibuya Psychic Research team, and although Mai is initially bothered by his self-importance (she dubs him “Naru the Narcissist”), she proves to be an equal partner in hunting down bothersome spirits and before long develops a crush on Naru. The duo are joined by a trio of theological sidekicks: a Shinto priestess, a Buddhist monk, and a Catholic priest (apparently, there are no ghost-hunting rabbis in anime). Ghost Hunt is a fairly low-key series that—considering the subject matter—is surprisingly lacking in genuine mystery and suspense. Compiling the first 13 episodes of the series in a dual-language double-disc set, rated TV-MA, this is not a necessary purchase.
