Shove over Miss Piggy, make room Big Bird, get a life Mr. Rogers, the neighborhood of popular (Barney included), quality (Barney excluded) children’s video just got bigger with these new kids on the block. Without copying the Muppets outright, these characters are nearly as interesting as Henson’s troupe, and also consciously reinforce notions of respect for the environment, and wonder at the natural beauty of the earth—especially their home: a wildly colorful marsh and make believe wetlands. Creatures sporting names like Eco, (the wise elder), Galileo (the Luke Skywalker type), and Mud/Slinger (a two-headed beastie who can’t seem to ever agree on anything) along with catchy songs make Groundling Marsh a pleasant place to visit. Nicely produced with extremely lavish sets, this nature series is kid friendly, non-toxic and environmentally safe. Highly recommended. (N. Plympton)
