Created and written by Frank Spotnitz, this Cinemax series (co-produced with the BBC) stars Melissa George as Sam Hunter, a private security operative who survives an assassination attempt, and then—following a year in hiding—returns to her employer to find out who betrayed her. There's plenty of mistrust to spread around as Sam goes back on duty, and is sent undercover into the home of widower Stephen Turner (Stephen Campbell Moore) as the nanny of his young son, in order to spy on Jack Turner (Patrick Malahide), Stephen's industrialist father. Jack suspects Sam, as does her own boss, Rupert Keel (Stephen Dillane), while Sam is suspicious of anyone and everyone. Meanwhile, she's assaulted by flashbacks from her childhood, related to the murder of her mother. Although slick and stylishly produced—with a solid cast that also includes Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje and Indira Varma—Hunted doesn't really distinguish itself from similar fare, and with no second season in the works, it's unlikely to find much of an audience. Compiling all eight episodes from the 2012 season, this extra-less DVD-R release is optional, at best. (S. Axmaker)
