The Discovery Channel-aired Into Alaska with Jeff Corwin finds the affable anthropologist and zoologist Corwin in America's 49th state where he explores jaw-droppingly spectacular places so remote that one is grateful just to be watching from the safety of an armchair. Featuring eight episodes from the eponymous series, this two-disc set begins with Corwin journeying to Denali National Park and Reserve, a six million acre reserve full of wildlife (including many brown bears, who are superstars of this series), where he engages in a bit of climbing on Mt. McKinley, the USA's highest mountain and a breathtakingly scary if beautiful spot. From there, Corwin's travels take him to the amazing Kenai Peninsula, Katmai National Park, and the Southeast corner of the state, with adventures that include close encounters with whales, wolves, arctic foxes, exotic coastal sea life, and more bears. Corwin goes fishing for huge halibut, rides a sled pulled by hardworking dogs, and runs from a curious bull seal. Throughout, Corwin's enthusiasm, sense of wonder, and good humor prove infectious. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (T. Keogh)
