"My friend Chris says the only purpose of television is to show happy white people. We have TV, that window to America; we see you. You don't see us." So states Native American writer Jim Northrup in this montage from his one-man show. There's a little bit of everything here: some excellent jokes, a story of a son's first job that any parent could relate to, and stories of Vietnam from a veteran's perspective. Additional footage around the seasons shows Northrup's family and friends working at age-old folkways in the Northern Minnesota woods and lakes. Northrup's poems and tales of his experience, past and present, prove he is a talented writer and gifted storyteller; his audience is clearly under his spell. So is the home viewer. Humorous, touching and thought provoking, this tape is highly recommended. Aud: C, P. (R. Reagan)
