The long-running partnership between Star Wars and LEGO extends beyond toys and special model kits to include video games and animated adventures. The Freemaker Adventures, the fourth animated LEGO Star Wars series to date, follows a family of scavengers (two brothers, a sister, and a cowardly rebuilt battle droid named Roger) who salvage parts from the ruins of old space battles, constructing new ships from the scraps. When the youngest brother discovers a connection to the Force, he is mentored by a Jedi knight who turns out to actually be a Sith agent in the employ of the Emperor. She's on a mission to track down crystals scattered throughout the galaxy in order to create a powerful light saber, and she uses the Freemakers to find the pieces. Meanwhile, the Freemaker siblings blindly leap into dangerous situations, with a reckless disregard for the danger to themselves and others, but part of the show's narrative journey is watching them mature and learn to take greater responsibility. Like previous entries, there is plenty of humor here, including a comic Dark Vader who is humiliated by the Emperor for allowing the Death Star to be destroyed. Compiling all 13 episodes from 2016, extras include behind-the-scenes featurettes. Recommended. Aud: P. (S. Axmaker)
