Mao-Chan, Volume 3: Song of Defense

Cute aliens are invading earth, stealing Japanese national monuments, and even attacking the melon, tangerine, and apple crops! Fortunately, the three Chiefs of Staff of Japan have happened upon a brilliant idea: fight the cute aliens with their own cute granddaughters. So eight-year-old Mao-Chan, Sylvia-Chan, and Misora-Chan become the Ground Defense Force, with the end result that cuteness has never been so much fun or had such military consequence. Featuring six 12-minute episodes, this brightly animated series designated as “suitable for all ages” is not only appealing for wee viewers, but also has charm and a wickedly self-deprecating sense of humor that make it great entertainment for most. Presented in a dual language format (and featuring a particularly user-friendly DVD menu), DVD extras here include an interview with director Yoshaki Iwasaki and blooper outtakes from the English voice cast.
