I suppose there's a time and a place for Margaret Cho: namely, your dorm room during that brief moment of your first semester at college when jokes about Viagra and how the pope is like a drag queen seem fresh and terms like "pussy cyclone" are shocking. Heck, I'm an old lefty liberal feminist atheist, just like Cho, and she bores the hell out of me anyway. But if viewers need a pat-on-the-head confirmation of their Democratic politics, then they will want to check out Margaret Cho: Assassin, shot in May 2005 at the Warner Theater in Washington DC, where the comic dares to make fun of Republicans while also using the word "lesbian" a lot. We're told she's "controversial," but honestly, all she really does here is lob obvious cheap shots that validate the status quo of her audience (where's the controversy in that?). DVD extras include short tribute films and behind-the-scenes featurettes. Still, given Cho's popularity, this is recommended for purchase in urban and/or college town libraries where demand may be high. Aud: P. (M. Johanson)
