Although this suspenseful, ingenious crime drama continued to hold its viewership during year three, some fans began to grumble that Numb3rs just didn't add up, owing to a repetition of familiar situations. And it's true: the 24 episodes of the 2006-07 third season don't equal, much less surpass, the best installments from previous seasons. The basic premise—FBI agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) regularly enlists the aid of his eccentric, math-genius brother Charlie (David Krumholtz) when investigating complex and baffling crimes—remains the same (with secondary players Judd Hirsch and Peter MacNicol lending able support), but the ingenuity of the writers seems to have already been taxed to the point of diminishing returns. DVD extras include cast and crew commentaries on five episodes, behind-the-scenes featurettes, and a blooper reel. Optional. (E. Hulse)
