Britain's Jamie Oliver is one of the best-known contemporary media chefs, with plenty of television exposure (including shows on the Food Network) and numerous cookbooks under his apron. So this two-disc set compiling all 15 episodes of his series' second season will be appreciated by his many fans. Oliver is an engaging, energetic 30-year-old who favors rather grungy outfits and a mop of unruly hair, as well as a hip, fast-talking attitude. Another plus is the visual style: the episodes are shot on film and the editing is fast and furious, with a handheld camera following Oliver as he shops for ingredients and then dashes around the kitchen, offering cooking tips as he works. Each show also has at least the rudiments of a story, as Oliver makes lunch for some workers or a visiting guest, shares the kitchen with another chef, or returns home to his father's pub to put together a meal, for example (this approach also allows onlookers to ask questions, thus serving as viewer surrogates). Ultimately, of course, what matters most is the food, and the menus here are both varied and mouthwatering (viewers have the option of accessing the sections on each dish individually, and a separate website lists all of the necessary ingredients). Oliver's Twist 2 will prove to be a tasty addition to the smorgasbord of cooking-show DVDs. Recommended. (F. Swietek)
