As an admittedly bonkers head-over-heels pet owner myself, it was fun to watch the somewhat unhinged participants of this six-part Irish series from director Ronan McCloskey. Pet Island features several pet-related stories, while over the entire series viewers check in with cat owners trying to train their felines to use the toilet through the “Litter Kwitter” contraption (also featured is the Australian creator of said gadget). Other segments center on a couple whose six dogs have a fascinating wardrobe, various championship competitions, a wacky animal psychic (who is able to discern that a pig is interested in food), rodent safety issues (“Is it safe for a child? It should be safe for a rat.”), an opera singer who serenades mini-donkeys, dog IQ testing, and African pygmy hedgehogs. An often entertaining if also scattershot series, this is a strong optional purchase. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
