This nine-episode anime series, based on the Korean MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) of the same name, finds young swordsman Roan and his childhood friend Yufa wandering about a mystical place called Midgard, encountering a seemingly endless number of new friends, inept comic villains, and monsters to fight. But outside of the spooky Takius, a blindfolded sorceress, none of the characters are particularly memorable, and the storyline is rather rambling and often pointless (in true RPG fashion, some would say). Sporting decent animation, this extra-less, dual-language two-disc set, rated TV-PG, might hold some appeal to Ragnarok game players, but others are likely to be disappointed. Not a necessary purchase. [Note: Ragnarok—The Animation: Second Quest is also available, with Third Quest debuting on Mar. 25.] Aud: P. (P. Hall)
