Mark Feuerstein and Paulo Costanzo star as Hank and Evan Lawson, brothers turned business partners in a medical practice. Hank is a “concierge doctor” to the wealthy and aimless in the Hamptons, making house calls while offering a terrific bedside manner and unconventional techniques in emergency medicine. Evan serves as the financial expert and promoter. In this sophomore season Henry Winkler joins the cast as the siblings' estranged father, Eddie, who arrives with a legacy of dubious schemes and shady business ventures trailing behind him. Reshma Shetty costars as the brothers' medical assistant, Divya, who's preparing for an arranged marriage, and Campbell Scott is Boris, their mysterious benefactor, who reveals that he's dying of what appears to be an incurable condition. Guest stars include Marcia Gay Harden, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Tom Cavanagh, Jim Gaffigan, singer John Legend, and WWE wrestler Big Show. Compiling all 18 episodes from the 2010–11 second season, DVD extras include select episode commentaries, Q&As with the stars, behind-the-scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, and a gag reel. Royal Pains is formula TV, but it's also relatively fun, making this a strong optional purchase. (S. Axmaker)
