Crowned by TV Guide as the best TV series of all time, Seinfeld--the proverbial show about "nothing"--makes its long-awaited debut on DVD in this four-disc set compiling all 18 episodes from the first two truncated seasons. Created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Seinfeld--which bowed in 1990--gets the red carpet treatment with candid and revealing audio commentaries and interviews (yada, yada, yada), deleted scenes, original episode promos, and optional "Notes About Nothing" pop-ups. Devoted fans will enjoy revisiting the early days of this pop culture landmark that introduced us to that fabulous NYC quartet of bachelor Jerry (Seinfeld), nutty Kramer (Michael Richards), neurotic George (Jason Alexander), and ex-girlfriend turned "friend" Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus). During his commentary for the episode "The Revenge," Alexander hits the nail on the head with his reference to the show's "sweet quality" that smooths over the characters' emotional and psychological warts. In addition, the "Inside Look" episode intros reveal how Seinfeld overturned sitcom conventions in such now-classic episodes as "The Chinese Restaurant," in which Jerry, George, and Elaine spend the whole half-hour waiting for a table. Fans will surely recall Elaine's infamous shout "It's not nothing, it's something!" from the third-season episode, "The Subway," and this initial boxed set full of winning extras is "something" indeed. Highly recommended. Editor's Choice. [Note: Seinfeld: Season 3 is also newly available.] (K. Lee Benson)
