Sexual Intelligence

Naughty and nice, this made-for-TV documentary (a companion coffee table book is also being sold), offers little more than an excuse to have the lovely Kim Cattrall (one of the Sex and the City stars) chat coquettishly in front of the camera about all things sexual. But there's a lively playfulness to this exploration of desire and attraction that ensures it's always charming and never lurid, whether the program is looking at the depiction of phalluses in Roman times and the overall place of sexuality in mythology, or serving up interviews with modern-day adventurers about their sexual proclivities. There's nothing particularly groundbreaking from a sociological perspective in this lightweight survey of hang-ups and turn-ons throughout history and across cultures, and (despite the “viewer discretion” sticker) actually very little arousing—only viewers completely ignorant about the human body or differences between cultures will find anything either titillating or enlightening here.
