On the island-kingdom of Windaria—where humans coexist with elves, witches, and other magical beings—three cheerful, busty babes run a bakery producing "bread of happiness" and other sweet delicacies. Their new chef Rick washed ashore on Windaria as an amnesiac—an origin story shared by other inhabitants. When Rick eventually displays Jason Bourne-style latent fighting skills, it's clear that he's more than he seems. In the dozen (not baker's) leisurely episodes from 2012 compiled here, a dwarf-inventor tries to reactivate the Battle Angel Alita-style feminine robot he discovered on the beach (with the aid of certain lost island treasures), while the characters' secrets ultimately become clearer when an enemy battle-fleet appears on the horizon. Inspired by the titular video game, Shining Hearts is an inconsequential, puff-pastry fantasy. Arriving on DVD and Blu-ray in dual-language editions, rated TV-14, extras include bonus mini-cartoons. An optional purchase, at best. (C. Cassady)
