South Park: The Complete Fifteenth Season

Definitely losing steam, this 2011 15th season of creator Trey Parker and Matt Stone's Comedy Central-aired series serves up a mixed bag of cultural satire, taking potshots at media (“HumancentiPad,” “A History Channel Thanksgiving”), politics (the immigration-themed “The Last of the Meheecans,” and the “1%” Occupy movement spoof), and pop culture (the “Royal Pudding” adds a wacky Canadian spin on the wedding of Prince William; “Crack Baby Athletic Association” pokes fun at Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash). Generally, however, the stories aren't that funny, with the multiple personality disorder groaner “City Sushi,” hackneyed fellatio jokes in “Broadway Bro Down,” and disappointingly banal two-parter “You're Getting Old” and “Ass Burgers” being the bottom of the barrel. Coming from a longtime South Park fan who incorporated the series into a nuptial ceremony, I have to say that this latest batch truly disappoints. Compiling all 14 episodes, extras include mini-commentaries by Parker and Stone, deleted scenes, and production featurettes. Optional. (J. Williams-Wood)
