Bawdy British talk show host Graham Norton has made a recent splash on America's Comedy Central cable channel with his engaging, witty The Graham Norton Effect, in which he embarrasses celebrities and ordinary people alike. This disc compiles funny segments from numerous episodes of his UK chat show So Graham Norton, replete with sex-toy props and out-of-the-blue phone calls to regular folks minding their own business at home. Highlights include a conversation with actress Rosanna Arquette, in which her description of receiving a painful Brazilian bikini wax treatment encourages Rod Stewart to admit something he instantly regrets. Gillian Anderson (The X-Files) is enlisted to speak creative obscenities in German over the phone, and Cher reluctantly converses with a fellow whose main turn-on is blowing up balloons. Not everything concerns sex: one of the best moments finds Dustin Hoffman pulling a Candid Camera-like stunt on an unsuspecting taxi passenger. The parade of familiar faces include Dolly Parton, Orlando Bloom, and Shirley MacLaine. DVD extras include a pair of interviews. Optional. (T. Keogh)
