For sheer fun in the kitchen, it's hard to beat Jeff Smith, the renowned "frugal gourmet" of public television fame. In Cheese for a Meal, Smith takes viewers on a tour of a cheese factory in IL, where people get a chance to witness cheese making on a large scale. Back in the kitchen, Smith rustles up some deep-fried cheese appetizers, a cream of Brie soup, a Swiss cheese soufflé, and a favorite around the Smith household, fondue ("If I make fondue for Jason, he cheers for weeks.") Noted for his common sense approach to cooking, Smith makes his creations look easy, and watching him work in the kitchen, culinary patter going at warp speed (he occasionally talks with his mouthful--but politely apologizes) is both inspiring and entertaining. There are presently some 50 programs available in the series, with substantial savings for the series purchase. Highly recommended. (See INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS for availability.)
