The Good Fight: Season Two

The second season of this spin-off series from The Good Wife doubles down on the political satire developed in the debut season. The central law firm, which made its reputation defending civil rights, finds itself under fire during the Trump presidency and things get personal as the firm spends as much time defending its own people from government attacks as it does representing its clients. The show plays with the upending of political norms with surreal news stories of Trump, which are later revealed as something like hallucinations experienced by the disillusioned Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski). Audra McDonald joins the cast as Liz Reddick-Lawrence, daughter of a founding partner and ex-wife of senior partner Adrian (Delroy Lindo). And Lucca (Cush Jumbo), who came to the firm with Diane, discovers that she is pregnant by her former boyfriend (Justin Bartha), a federal attorney who runs for an open congressional seat this season. For all the satire of the new political culture (including a lampoon of Fox News), the Democratic Party isn't shown to be any more idealistic or honorable when they contact the firm. Like The Good Wife, this series tackles current issues and contemporary culture with humor and features a superb guest cast (including Gary Cole, Carrie Preston, and Margo Martindale). Compiling all 13 episodes from the 2018 second season, extras include deleted scenes and a gag reel. Highly recommended. (S. Axmaker)
