"Television's First Masterpiece" boasts A&E on the box, and I heartily concur. Patrick McGoohan stars as the unbreakable Number 6 in this highly-acclaimed and still hotly debated 1969 British series about a retired government agent secreted away to a fairy tale-like village, where he finds both his loyalties and sanity questioned. This 2-disc volume contains three 50-minute episodes (a tad stingy if you ask me, A&E), including the classic "Many Happy Returns," which asks, "If Number 6 were ever to escape, would anyone believe his story?" And by all means don't miss the bonus interview with original production manager Bernie Williams, who gives the behind-the-scenes lowdown on working with the series' enigmatic creator and star. For the third time now The Prisoner boxed set gets our highest recommendation. Editor's Choice. [Note: The Prisoner: Vol. 4 is now also available.] (S. C. Sickles)

Star Ratings
As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
