This amiable fantasy showcases the considerable acting talents of Oscar nominee Tom (Amadeus) Hulce. Originally an American Playhouse production, this filmed play is divided into two parts. In the first half, Daniel Rocket (Hulce) and his elementary school cohorts work on science projects for school. While the other kids work on chlorophyll, Daniel intends to fly. The constant butt of jokes, Daniel only cares about flying and Alice. When he reveals his true abilities to Alice, he promises that he will one day return for her. Part two takes place twenty years later, when Daniel returns after becoming famous worldwide. Alice has married his best friend and forgotten their earlier promise. Daniel, still the dreamer, doesn't find it necessary to face or accept reality. A quirky little drama. Recommended.
