She's a typical teen with standard schoolyard angst…until a chemical spill bequeaths Alex Mack with a range of superpowers that make coming-of-age even more of a struggle. This Nickelodeon channel favorite finally bows on DVD, compiling all 13 episodes from the 1994-95 first season on a two-disc extra-less set. Viewers will follow Alex through several adventures—science fair projects, midterm exams, talent show stage fright, etc.—which unleash her newfound special abilities (involving electrical charges, telekinesis, and shape-shifting). There's also an added twist: Alex's dad works for the company responsible for Alex's condition…and his firm is desperate to cover it up. As played by spunky Larisa Oleynik, Alex just wants to be a “normal” 13-year-old, even with her unique talents. Don't be fooled by the packaging and cover art: supposed costar Jessica Alba was a minor character, and disappears after the first few episodes. A strong optional purchase. (B. Gibron)
