Based on Nakaba Suzuki's titular fantasy manga series, this anime series centers on the Kingdom of Liones, whose ruling house has been overthrown by a tyrannical group of warriors known as the Holy Knights. Princess Elizabeth seeks help in reclaiming the throne from the titular squad of seven fighters who were expelled by the Knights years before and have since disbanded. She locates boyish Meliodas, aka the Dragon's Sin of Wrath and former leader of the Sins, who is now a simple barkeeper. Together with Meliodas's talking pig Hawk, they undertake an eventful trek to find and enlist his former companions, all the while pursued by the Knights and their accomplices. This is a colorful adventure yarn replete with unusual characters and magical action sequences presented in an animation style that successfully mirrors Suzuki's original illustrations. Presenting the first 12 episodes (of 24) from 2014 in separate dual-language (plus Spanish) DVD and Blu-ray/DVD Combo editions, rated TV-14, this is recommended. (F. Swietek)
