TV Land's hit sitcom—a spin-off from Hot in Cleveland—is a family-friendly yuk-fest showcasing the droll physical and urban/urbane comedy of Cedric the Entertainer. As Reverend Boyce “The Voice” Ballentine, a reformed R&B superstar turned preacher, Cedric serves up a natural, relaxed shtick that evinces genuine laughs in the quippy back-and-forth dialogue. The supporting cast has also settled into a comfortable ensemble, with Niecy Nash a sturdy foil as Cedric's wife, Lolli (whether she's worrying over his colonoscopy results or backing him up in a bar fight); Wesley Jonathan as Ballentine's goldbricking brother, Stamps (playing up their needling relationship with some solid comic chops of his own); and John Beasley making the most of his wisecracks as their cranky father. While it's hardly must-see TV, the show does provide plenty of mild amusement. Compiling all 10 episodes from the 2013 second season, extras include behind-the-scenes featurettes. A strong optional purchase. (T. Fry)
